Situation
An insurer’s disaster recovery capability existed largely on paper. The documented recovery time was long, and it had not been proven end to end.
Challenge
Nobody could say with confidence whether recovery would actually work. Tabletop exercises had exposed gaps, but closing them needed changes to architecture, runbooks and testing practice together.
Intervention
- Assessed recovery against business criticality rather than against the existing documentation.
- Redesigned recovery architecture around defined RTO and RPO targets.
- Replaced tabletop exercises with live, production-like recovery tests.
Outcome
Recovery time was substantially reduced and demonstrated in a live test under regulator observation.
